The story of Munoz Ghezlan & Co. begins over a century ago, in the vibrant and evolving heart of early 20th-century London. Our company’s foundation was laid in 1914 when two visionaries, Alexander Munoz and Deeb Ghezlan, crossed paths in what would become a legendary meeting of minds that shaped the future of finance and real estate.
Alexander Munoz, a brilliant financier from Spain, arrived in London during the height of the industrial revolution. His specialty lay in helping mining companies raise capital by issuing bonds, an innovative strategy at the time that allowed these companies to secure the funding they needed to tap into the wealth of natural resources fueling global growth. Munoz had a knack for seeing potential where others saw risk, and his reputation as a financial architect quickly grew among Europe’s industrialists.
Deeb Ghezlan, a Syrian businessman with a background in real estate development, had settled in London years earlier. Starting with developments in Latakia, Ghezlan expanded into Egypt, and then into Britain. He was a visionary, seeing opportunities to transform London’s burgeoning neighborhoods into thriving centers of commerce and community. His developments were not just about constructing buildings but about creating spaces where businesses and families could flourish. Known for his meticulous planning and deep understanding of urban growth, Ghezlan was already a respected name in London’s real estate circles.
Their meeting was serendipitous. Legend has it that the two were introduced at a dinner hosted by a mutual acquaintance—an industrialist seeking to build factories in one of Ghezlan’s developments. Over the course of the evening, Munoz and Ghezlan discovered a shared belief in the power of capital to drive innovation and growth. Where Ghezlan envisioned vibrant, developed spaces, Munoz saw the financial mechanisms to make them a reality.
In 1915, Munoz and Ghezlan officially joined forces, creating what was then known as Munoz & Ghezlan Associates by merging Ghezlan’s development company and Munoz’s financial house. Their first project was groundbreaking: they combined Ghezlan’s real estate expertise with Munoz’s financial acumen to fund and develop a large-scale mixed-use district in East London. By structuring the financing with innovative bond offerings, they were able to attract investors who shared their vision. The project was a resounding success, setting a new standard for urban development and financing.
Over the decades, Munoz and Ghezlan expanded their partnership, tackling ambitious projects across Europe and the Middle East. Eventually as more shareholders joined the business, the company rebranded to Munoz Ghezlan & Co. Ltd., honoring the two founders’ legacies.
